How a letter from a little girl gave us our name.
Andy Chong has been making donuts in Houston, Texas since 2010. Early mornings, late nights, and a whole lot of love in every batch. The shop became a gathering place for neighbors, families, and early risers. Then one day, someone stole the tip jar right off the counter, and the whole thing was caught on video.
A little girl named Chloe saw the video. Her mom showed it to her, and Chloe knew she had to help. She gathered up her tooth fairy money and wrote a handwritten letter.
“Dear Donut Man, my mom showed me the video of your money getting stolen. I'm sorry that happened. This is my tooth fairy money.”
Andy was so moved that he renamed the shop after the opening words of her letter, “Dear Donut Man.” He promised Chloe free donuts for life, and as he put it: “She's such an amazing kid. People need to follow this kind of attitude.” Today, Dear Donut Man serves two locations across Houston, Texas, and that same spirit of community is in everything we do.
