Andy Chong has been making donuts in Houston, Texas for years, waking up at 4:30 AM, perfecting recipes late into the night, and putting love into every batch of artisan donuts, brisket kolaches, and Vietnamese coffee.
His shop quickly became a go-to spot for neighbors, families, and early risers across the Houston area. From glazed and frosted classics to the now-famous Texas-smoked brisket kolaches, Andy's creations earned a loyal and growing following.
Then one day, someone stole the tip jar right off the counter, and it was all caught on camera.
When 9-year-old Chloe saw the video, she knew she had to do something. She gathered up her tooth fairy money and wrote a handwritten letter that would give Andy's shop its new name:
"Dear Donut Man, my mom showed me the video of your money getting stolen. I'm sorry that happened. This is my tooth fairy money." - Chloe
Andy was so touched that he renamed the shop after the opening words of her letter. Dear Donut Man became more than just a name. It became a reminder that generosity, community, and heart are at the core of everything worth doing.
He promised Chloe free donuts for life and told ABC13 Houston: "She's such an amazing kid. People need to follow this kind of attitude."
The story went viral, featured on ABC13, FOX 61, and PIX11 News, touching hearts across Houston, Texas and beyond.
Today, Dear Donut Man proudly serves two locations across Houston, Texas, with more on the way. That same spirit of community is in every donut we make, every kolache we bake, and every cup of Vietnamese coffee we pour.
We open our doors at 4:30 AM every day because our community deserves fresh, handcrafted donuts made with love. Come be part of the family. Order online for pickup or stop by and taste the kindness for yourself.
